Tree trimming in your neighborhood
Entergy New Orleans and City of New Orleans Parks and Parkways
Why we’re doing this work
We trim trees and clear vegetation around power lines to keep people safe and to reduce outages. Trimming protects long-term tree health by maintaining safe clearance from power lines, preventing branch damage caused by electrical contact. Pruning branches near lines also helps prevent:
- Downed wires and neighborhood outages during storms
- Fires or electrical hazards when branches touch lines
- Longer repair times when crews can’t access equipment
What to expect
Before work begins:
- You’ll receive a door hanger with the contractor’s contact name and number. In many areas, we also send automated phone
notices to customers who have up‑to‑date contact information. - We coordinate with the city’s Parks and Parkways team and share our feeder maps so city partners know where we’re working.
During the work:
- Crews prune branches to maintain a safe clearance around power lines.
- We use proper pruning techniques that protect tree health. We do not “top” trees.
- Crews set up appropriate traffic and pedestrian controls to keep sidewalks and streets safe while work is underway.
After the work:
- Debris from maintained areas is hauled away the same day and covered during transport. Work sites are left clean.
- Quality checks: our vegetation operations team audits completed work to ensure clean‑up and standards are met.
- If you have questions or concerns, use the contact on your door hanger or call 1‑800‑ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749).
How we prune
- We follow nationally recognized safety and arboricultural standards and New Orleans Parks and Parkways rules.

- Branches near lines are cut back to a strong, healthy side branch — not stubbed or topped.
- Contractors are licensed, bonded and insured. Credentials are on file with the City Forester.
Our routine trimming program
Most neighborhoods are trimmed on a regular cycle, with additional “as‑needed” trimming when storms or inspections identify issues. We also perform pre‑storm patrols and targeted trimming in high‑risk areas to reduce outages. We use new tools — like aerial imagery — to help predict where trimming will be needed.
Our partnership with the city
Entergy New Orleans coordinates closely with New Orleans Parks and Parkways. The city inspects work sites, provides guidance and has final authority on pruning decisions for city‑owned trees. We share schedules and updates so city partners can answer questions from residents.
