Phase 1: Accelerated Resilience Plan (2025-26)
Building a stronger and more resilient grid for New Orleans
Entergy New Orleans’ “Accelerated Resilience Plan (2025-26)” to harden grid infrastructure across the city was approved by the New Orleans City Council on October 24, 2024.
The Council’s approval represents a key first step in a larger effort focusing on comprehensive upgrades to New Orleans’ electrical grid, which will enable us to restore power more quickly and reduce restoration costs following a major storm.
“The impact of stronger and more severe weather makes investing in resilience absolutely critical to the future of our city,” said Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans.
Phase 1, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, includes 63 individual projects. These projects will strengthen nearly 3,100 structures and upgrade 63 electrical line miles. The total cost approved for Phase 1 is $100 Million over a two-year period (2025-26).
We routinely invest in repairs and upgrades to our electrical grid infrastructure. But the work beginning under this plan will represent the most comprehensive grid upgrade in the city’s history.
Choose from the maps below to find projects in your neighborhood. The blue-shaded areas on each map represent the planned locations of grid-hardening projects.
We used a data-driven approach to evaluate thousands of potential storm scenarios to identify specific projects which involve replacing existing utility poles with bigger, stronger, more fortified poles that are designed to withstand higher winds during extreme weather events.
The work being done in the Phase 1 plan is unprecedented, and it is only the beginning of the accelerated resilience work that Entergy New Orleans has planned for the city to create a stronger, more resilient grid for our customers. We will continue to work with the New Orleans City Council to limit storm-related outages, shorten restoration times, and reduce restoration costs for customers following major storm events. These enhancements to grid infrastructure will all help New Orleans communities get back on their feet quicker following a storm.
