Energize New Orleans: Affordability

Local people. Nationally low electric rates.

As everyday expenses become more and more costly, we remain focused on minimizing the impact of inflation on our customers’ bills. That’s why we’re proud to say last year our electric rates were approximately 21% below the national average.

We know how important it is that we deliver reliable power at an affordable price. New Orleans is our home, too, and most of us at Entergy are customers just like you. Our teams are driven by purpose and work hard every day to keep your bills as low as possible.

Data source: 21% average is sourced from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. EIA rate comparison data does not include any securitized riders, taxes or fees. Securitized riders typically include storm restoration costs, for example.

Providing a one-stop-shop

We also offer bill support for customers facing financial hardships. Our Bill Toolkit provides valuable resources and available assistance options to help customers better manage their energy bills.

We also help customers maximize their savings by connecting them with federal funding resources such as LIHEAP and Single Stop.

Whether you have questions about your bill, need additional time to pay, or are seeking financial assistance, our one-stop-shop connects you to available programs and services.

Putting money back in your pocket

As inflation drives up daily costs, we remain focused on limiting the impact on your energy bill while maximizing the support we provide. Through our partnerships with community organizations, we put money back in our customers’ pockets and support our neighbors when they need it the most. In 2024, Entergy donated $4.3 million from shareholder funds – not from customer bills – to more than 110 New Orleans nonprofits.

5 ways we’re saving you money:

Grid work before storms saves customers money. When we reinforce our grid before severe weather strikes, customers end up saving money because it’s much more costly to make repairs post-storm. Phase 1 of our resilience plan is underway and includes 63 individual projects across the city through 2026. We’ll strengthen more than 3,000 structures and upgrade 63 electric line miles. Hardening the grid means it withstands stronger and more frequent storms, and you’ll experience fewer and shorter outages when interruptions do occur.

Modernizing our generation fleet. Modern technologies equal better efficiency, and our new, modern power generation sources help us and our customers meet clean energy goals. Newer plants are more fuel-efficient, which lowers fuel charges on customer bills for the long term.

Building a power generation mix. Using a diverse range of power sources makes our system more reliable, efficient and cost effective for customers.

Managing fuel costs. We’re in a constant state of trying to buy fuel at the lowest price available. Fuel costs are never marked up, so customers pay exactly what we pay.

Recruiting new power partners. By bringing new, large customers into our service area we create new jobs and dollars for the region and lessen the energy cost burden for residential customers.

We also offer The Power to Care, our bill assistance program to support elderly and disabled customers, and Energy Smart, our customer energy efficiency program.

During the summer of 2024 heat wave, Entergy New Orleans donated more than $383,000, including through The Power to Care, to help customers Beat the Heat and manage their electrical bills.

Lending a helping hand

It’s not just the company that’s committed to supporting our city, however – volunteering is one of the many important ways our employees power life in the communities where we live and work.

In 2024, our employees teamed up with the nonprofit Rebuilding Together New Orleans to provide home weatherization makeovers for low-income homeowners and hosted energy efficiency fairs to help residents manage their bills. The effort was so impactful, we did it again in 2025.

Employees receive paid time off to volunteer for the causes they care about, and each year they donate hundreds of thousands of dollars in time and labor to local organizations.

In 2024, employees in New Orleans dedicated more than 21,400 hours of volunteer service valued at more than $717,250.
