Entergy Awards Community Partnership Grants

Despite Lean Times, Entergy New Orleans Continues to Support Local Non-Profits

New Orleans, La. – During its annual Community Partnership Grants program on May 24, Entergy New Orleans, Inc. awarded several local non-profit organizations a total of $15,000. The company’s charitable contributions to the local community total nearly $700,000 since 2008 - demonstrating that despite lean economic times, Entergy New Orleans remains committed to providing financial assistance to programs that positively impact New Orleans.

“We are grateful to Entergy New Orleans for supporting the Friends of the New Orleans Fire Department, “said Nancy Lytle, business chairman of the Lakeview Civic Improvement Association and volunteer fundraiser. “Our firefighters practically live in these buildings around the clock to help protect and serve our community. Now that we’ve renovated the 22 firehouses that flooded during Hurricane Katrina, this funding will help the department with building maintenance and computers for vital communication and education.”

Entergy New Orleans handed out 20 grants to non-profit organizations and programs that will benefit families, schools, youth and the elderly in the areas of education, health, arts and community involvement. Non-profits are encouraged to submit a grant proposal, stating their need and a team with representatives from the New Orleans community and from Entergy reviews the proposals and selects the recipients.

“The variety of programs funded by Community Partnership Grants adds immense value to our community,” Melonie Hall, customer service director, Entergy New Orleans, Inc. said. “While the recent recession makes it tough for many charitable agencies, Entergy New Orleans remains committed to helping deliver the kinds of programs that continue making our communities and our youth thrive.”

Among the 20 organizations funded, projects include:

  • Adult literacy

  • Instruments for local school music programs

  • Low-income children’s educational program

  • Health fair for Latino population

  • Food distribution to poverty-stricken families

Entergy continues to provide open grants on an ongoing basis to organizations that focus on improving communities as a whole. For more information about the available grant programs and charitable contributions, visit www.entergy-neworleans.com.
